Canva has launched its biggest product update yet, the Creative Operating System, which combines a refreshed Visual Suite, new design AI tools, and marketing features designed to help individuals and teams create faster and stay on brand.
The company described the release as the beginning of the “Imagination Era”, a time when technology enhances creativity rather than replaces it. At the centre of this update is the reworked Visual Suite, which introduces upgrades like Video 2.0, Canva Forms, integration between Canva Sheets and Code, and a new Email Design tool built into the platform.
A major part of the launch is the Canva Design Model, an AI system that understands design structure, branding, and layout to generate editable designs. This model now powers Canva’s AI tools and is also available on external platforms, including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
Other additions include AI-Powered Designs for instant editable templates, AI-Powered Elements for generating visuals, icons, and 3D assets, and Ask Canva, a built-in assistant that offers real-time creative suggestions.
The update also introduces Canva Grow, a marketing engine that connects content creation, publishing, and performance analytics in one space, along with a revamped Brand System to maintain consistency across large teams.
Affinity, Canva’s professional design suite, is now available for free to everyone and is directly integrated into the platform. This will be impactful for users seeking an affordable or free alternative to Adobe Photoshop.
With these moves, Canva is positioning itself as a complete creative ecosystem, bringing design, marketing, and AI together under one platform.
Meanwhile, rival Figma announced its acquisition of Weavy AI, soon to be rebranded as Figma Weave. The company, via Figma Weave, will facilitate the development of image, video, animation, motion design, and VFX media generation and editing capabilities on the Figma platform.
