Google has unveiled Veo 3.1 Lite, calling it the company’s most cost-effective video generation model.

The model is available via the Gemini API and Google AI Studio, targeting developers building high-volume video applications at a lower cost.

Developers can generate videos in 720p and 1080p resolutions, with adjustable durations of 4, 6, or 8 seconds depending on cost requirements. Google is offering 720p video at $0.05 per second, while the 1080p video will be available at $0.08 per second.

Veo 3.1 Lite is priced at less than half the cost of Veo 3.1 Fast while maintaining the same generation speed, positioning it as a more accessible option for developers experimenting with video AI at scale.

The company announced that pricing for Veo 3.1 Fast will be reduced starting April 7, further lowering barriers for developers looking to integrate video generation into products.

The model supports both text-to-video and image-to-video generation, along with flexible output formats including 16:9 landscape and 9:16 portrait.

Google also recently launched Gemini 3.1 Flash Live, a new voice model with improved real-time dialogue, task execution and multilingual interactions.

The launch comes at a time when OpenAI has exited the consumer video generation space, discontinuing Sora just months after its high-profile debut due to high operational costs, declining usage, and a broader strategic shift toward enterprise AI, coding tools, and robotics.
