OpenAI launched a new $100 monthly Pro subscription tier to address rising demand for Codex, its specialised code-generation model.
This intermediate level provides 5x the Codex usage limits of the standard Plus ($20/month) plan.
The company also confirmed that existing features, including the exclusive Pro model and unrestricted access to Instant and Thinking models, remain integrated into the new price point.
The $100 tier aims to facilitate “longer, high-effort Codex sessions” for developers and enterprise users.
To incentivise early adoption, OpenAI is implementing a promotional period that runs until May 31. During this window, $100 Pro subscribers receive up to 10x the Codex usage typically allocated to Plus users.
This adjustment positions the new offering between the $20 monthly Plus plan and the top-tier $200 Pro subscription.
The existing $200 Pro tier remains the highest-capacity option for power users. As part of the update, OpenAI extended a 2x Codex usage promotion for these subscribers through May 31.
The company also reset rate limits for current $200 tier members to ensure uninterrupted service during the transition.
OpenAI reports that Codex adoption within corporate environments has increased 6x since January 2026. The platform currently supports 9 million paying business users, with 2 million developers utilising Codex weekly.
Across the broader ecosystem, the company’s APIs now process more than 15 billion tokens per minute, while Codex has reached a milestone of 3 million weekly active users.
Recently, OpenAI announced that teams using ChatGPT Business and Enterprise can now add Codex-only seats with pay-as-you-go pricing, allowing full Codex access without a fixed seat cost. The company said this enables smaller groups to run pilots, demonstrate value in key workflows, and scale gradually.
It also said Codex pricing has been simplified, with Codex-only seats offering no rate limits and billing based on token usage, which makes it easier to track costs across teams and budgets.
Additionally, OpenAI noted that standard ChatGPT Business seats will still include Codex with usage limits, and the annual price for these seats has been reduced from $25 to $20 to improve accessibility.
