Brett Adcock, Founder of the humanoid startup Figure AI, has launched a new AI lab called Hark, as per his LinkedIn post. The new venture aims to build personalised AI systems that combine software and hardware to act as an extension of human thinking.

Hark has operated in stealth for eight months and is now entering beta, Adcock said. The company plans to develop systems that can understand, reason, and complete tasks with minimal human input while offering persistent and personalised intelligence.

While further details on products and timelines remain undisclosed, Adcock said he started Hark after working on humanoid AI systems for three years and using existing chatbot tools. He said current systems “feel incredibly dumb” compared to the goal of artificial general intelligence (AGI).

He described AGI as something that “should feel like a sci-fi movie” and added that it should be able to listen, speak, and retain memory. Such systems should also be able to see and interact with the physical world.

The systems at Hark will strive to “think like you and sometimes, ahead of you, to offload your mental workload.” The company added that its models will use speech, text, and vision, along with personalised memory, to create a more natural interface.

It is also building a “series of bespoke native hardware devices and agentic computers” to support its AI systems. These systems aim to act as a universal interface between humans and machines. Hark said its models are multimodal and built from scratch to understand and interact in natural ways.

Hark also wants to make this technology widely available and help users “solve meaningful problems” while freeing up time for other activities.
