Broadcom has launched VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1, a new infrastructure platform designed to help enterprises deploy production-scale AI workloads with improved security and lower costs.
The platform is designed as a private cloud solution that supports AI applications, Kubernetes, and mixed compute environments across hardware from AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA.
The launch comes amid growing concerns around the cost and security of AI infrastructure. According to Broadcom’s Private Cloud Outlook 2026, 56% of organisations are already running or planning to run AI inference workloads on private cloud, while reliance on public cloud has declined year-on-year.
“As more enterprises turn to AI for driving competitive advantage, they face three critical challenges: data and IP privacy concerns, surging infrastructure costs and their readiness for the world of agentic AI. VCF 9.1 is a single unified platform that addresses all three,” Krish Prasad, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the VMware Cloud Foundation division at Broadcom, said in a statement.
VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1 combines virtual machines, containers and AI workloads into a single system, allowing enterprises to avoid managing multiple infrastructure stacks. Broadcom noted that features like memory optimisation, storage compression, and automated operations can help reduce costs while improving efficiency.
The platform also integrates zero-trust security, compliance monitoring, and ransomware recovery tools to protect sensitive AI models and data. These features are becoming increasingly important as organisations scale AI while managing regulatory and cybersecurity risks.
Industry partners also highlighted the growing need for controlled AI environments. “Enterprises need infrastructure that delivers breakthrough AI performance while maintaining data sovereignty and control,” said John Fanelli, Vice President of Enterprise Software at NVIDIA.
With support for an open hardware ecosystem and improved scalability, Broadcom is positioning VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1 as a flexible alternative to public cloud infrastructure.
